Functional Diagnostic
It is for a good reason that we do not only focus on teeth but on the entire chewing apparatus. Only a perfect interplay of teeth, muscles, jaw joints and spine creates a balance which on the long run will leave you free of ailments. If only one component does not fit the system, this causes far-reaching disorders.
Our functional diagnostic examines the tonicity of the mastricatory muscles, judges the mobility and the movement pattern of the lower jaw and detects painful stress symptoms in muscles, joints and the spine.
During the functional analysis the movement patterns of the jaw joints are recoreded with the aid of a computer. Thereby disorders in movement such as shifts to the sides or crackling can be displayed and analysed. Simultaneously we are able to obtain data which becomes essential in the process of manufacturing a bite splint or dentures. Hence it is assured that these do match the performance of the joints.
We transfer dental casts, accurate in their representation of dimensions, to a joint simulator (articulator) in a way that is equivalent to the anatomical situation. This enables us to assess how the teeth influence their function, where changes on the chewing surfaces due to wearout or previous dental treatment disrupt the physiological movement pattern or where dangerous collision occurs.
